Mobile Chamber Music Young Concert Artists on Tour visited our school today and performed for the entire student body. It was a treat for us to hear beautiful music from such outstanding young musicians.

Jessica Gonzales spent three years as a roving visual arts teacher with Mobile County Public Schools before getting settled at Old Shell Road School of Creative & Performing Arts for the last two years. While she loves lessons that introduce students to art with simple crayon drawing, being at one school has allowed her to develop more extensive projects, like working with clay and completing finished projects in a kiln. Helping students discover a love for creativity is important, she said, but so are the problem-solving skills they develop in the process. "They're learning that when they make a mistake, they can take that and use it to create something even better," she said. #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Macklinee Major already knows she wants to be an artist. The second-grader at Old Shell Road School of Creative & Performing Arts loves to be creative and is also learning violin and piano. She's also an honor roll student who likes math and takes gymnastics. #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Parents,
MCPSS has been monitoring the weather all weekend and has been in discussion with Mobile County emergency officials regarding the forecast for Monday. Based on the most recent updates, we will have school on Monday, January 26, on our normal schedule. Students are expected to wear their uniforms, but to stay warm, they will have the option of layering either under or over their uniforms.
We can't wait to see all of our students tomorrow!

Our character trait for the month of December was Self-Respect. A student who displays this trait was chosen by their peers and teachers in each class. Congratulations to our December Characters of the Month! (Not pictured: Evangeline Liebertz & Emmy Runderson)
