On April 28, thirteen OSR choir students performed with Mobile County Honor Choir. It was an outstanding concert! We are so proud of our Honor Choir students!

The Fifth Grade Math Team competed at Causey this morning. Wesley Keesee had a perfect score. The Ciphering Team placed 4th out of 25 teams after a tie-breaker. Way to go, Rockstars!

This week, as first graders were wrapping up our Open Court unit, Red, White, and Blue, Mrs. Middleton was kind enough to visit each first-grade class and share special family treasures that belonged to her veteran grandfather. Our first graders loved being able to make connections to the information they had been reading.

Today we celebrated our principal, Dr. Byrd! We had a parade to show our appreciation to her since Friday is National Principal's Day!
For any student interested in being in band at Barton Academy, Clark Shaw, Denton, or Dunbar Magnet schools, please attend the required meeting on May 14th, 2026. This event will be at 6:00 p.m. in the Davidson High School Band room. Please note that Phillips Prep is doing instrument fitting at their Summer Pirate Camp.

Our character trait for March was Compassion. A student from each class that demonstrates this trait was chosen by their peers and teachers. Congratulations to our March Characters of the Month.
Third grade is learning about motion. They planned, built, and tested our tracks using classroom materials and a marble.

Dr. Byrd, Mrs. Corley, Mrs. B. Daigle, and Mr. Ludgood enjoyed meeting applicants for MCPSS.
The last day to turn in any Kids Heart Challenge donation money is Friday, March 20. All students who participate with a donation of $5 or more will attend our Kids Heart Challenge Celebration on April 3rd during students' scheduled PE classes. We are so grateful to our students and families who are able to help others in our community and thankful that we have organizations like the American Heart Association to provide opportunities for us to help!

OSR celebrated Read Across America Week! We love encouraging our young authors to read, write and illustrate!
The Old Shell Road Choir performed in Montgomery on Thursday for the Capitol Tunes program, a collaborative project of the Alabama State Department of Education, the Alabama Music Educators Association, and the Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts. Dr. Mackey, our State Superintendent of Schools, wore his Old Shell Road Magnet School shirt for the performance. We are proud of each student who participated. Many thanks to our choir parents who attended and helped with our students.
